Week 10: Dream Big Dreams

This weeks reading and videos were really good, as well as the discussion board that we had to do for class. It helped me to break down what I had learned and really what I had liked. I do have a dream of being able to help run a business one day, be the one to organize everything and have those abilities to be a leader.  Elder Oaks talked about how important it is to become while we are here on earth. I really loved this because I have seen in my life what the opposite brings. I have a sibling that is Transgender. Ever since they have made this decision, which was about 7 years ago, they have never been happy. They count on external things to make them happy. They also are not becoming anything, and instead are choosing to feel that the world is against them. The Lord does not want this for any of His children. He wants to see us striving for new things, go after our dreams and finding joy because of the love we feel from Him.  I also really loved the video "Think Big"....

Week 9: Disciple Leadership

The part of the reading that hit me the most this week was the talk by Elder Bednar called A Disciple Preparation Center. I remember reading this talk for a couple of my classes at BYU-I and loving the simple message that it carried. BYU-I can be seen as a very strict school, with harsh guidelines and black and white rules. This talk helped me to understand why some of those rules are in place. This school is designed to train you on how to be a Disciple of Christ for your whole life. The quote that Elder Bednar said that I really needed to hear this week was  " . . . I am the light of the world: he that   followeth   me   shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12; emphasis added)   Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.   Take my yoke upon you, and   learn of me ; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light....

Week 8: Overcoming Challenges

I really connected with the readings that we had this week because I can relate them to what I feel like I am going through in my life right now.  About 3 weeks ago my husband and I decided that we wanted to have a change and we felt it was time for a move. Boise is an expensive place to live, and it would be really hard to get into something that would fit our growing needs as far as housing. On top of this we have always talked about taking an adventure. I have a cousin that lives in Pennsylvania and so we decided to go for it and move there from Idaho. Our lease for our apartment is up in July and so it seemed like a perfect time to pack up and move. At first, I thought it would be easy to find jobs and a place to live. It is turning out to be a lot harder in the place-to-live department. The town that we are moving to is relatively small, but close to bigger cities, which makes it desirable for other people as well.  There have been days this week where I have really...

Week 7: Moving Forward with a Driving Passion

I really enjoyed all of the reading that we had to do this week. Finishing the book on Mastery was really eye opening and made me think about what I want to do to change so that I can become a master at something. We are taught to be so passive about things and to give up if we are not consistently doing better at something. It was really interesting to read about how we can change that by creating better habits.  The one that means the most to me would have to be Habit #1: Be Proactive. For me this is one of the harder habits that I struggle with. I feel like I want to stay in a comfortable place, going with the flow, following what everyone else is doing. As a member of the church, we are automatically different than most of the people who are around us. There are moments when I know what I believe and yet I stay quiet when there is a situation that I am uncomfortable with. In contrast there are simple day to day things that happen, like someone being rude or s...
