Week 7: Moving Forward with a Driving Passion

I really enjoyed all of the reading that we had to do this week. Finishing the book on Mastery was really eye opening and made me think about what I want to do to change so that I can become a master at something. We are taught to be so passive about things and to give up if we are not consistently doing better at something. It was really interesting to read about how we can change that by creating better habits.

The one that means the most to me would have to be Habit #1: Be Proactive. For me this is one of the harder habits that I struggle with. I feel like I want to stay in a comfortable place, going with the flow, following what everyone else is doing. As a member of the church, we are automatically different than most of the people who are around us. There are moments when I know what I believe and yet I stay quiet when there is a situation that I am uncomfortable with. In contrast there are simple day to day things that happen, like someone being rude or saying something to you that you do not like. I tend to just react instead of allowing myself to be proactive about my reaction and have it be aligned with what I want my character to be.

I think learning more about these 7 habits will help me have more passion in my life because they will create an environment where I can take control over my own destiny. It will help me to find that perfect balance between working hard and allowing my body and spirit to become strong and take time to heal. Mostly it will help me to understand that taking things slow is okay and that I need to do that with people and conversations. Listening can be an important skill and habit to learn. Ultimately it is all about learning how to be excited for life.
