Week 9: Disciple Leadership

The part of the reading that hit me the most this week was the talk by Elder Bednar called A Disciple Preparation Center. I remember reading this talk for a couple of my classes at BYU-I and loving the simple message that it carried. BYU-I can be seen as a very strict school, with harsh guidelines and black and white rules. This talk helped me to understand why some of those rules are in place. This school is designed to train you on how to be a Disciple of Christ for your whole life. The quote that Elder Bednar said that I really needed to hear this week was 

". . . I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12; emphasis added) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30; emphasis added)"

Our move is getting closer and closer. I have confidence that it is what we are supposed to be doing at this time, but there are moments when I am still nervous. This scripture helped me to remember that the Lord is literally light, and that when we follow Him he will light the path before us and help us along the way. He wants to help us and all we have to do is let Him in. 

I know that I can also put this towards my schooling and what I am trying to accomplish in my career. I am learning myself and what makes me, me. I love this class and the readings that we get to do, they help me understand myself so much better.

Week 12: Becoming a Change-Maker

      This week I learned a lot. It was really good to write the book report and to be able to make a summary of what the Hero's Journey is all about. The one thing that I really like about this book is that even though they were relating it to business and being an entrepreneur, it can be really relatable to you at any stage of life.      You will always need to figure out who you want to become and make goals to try and get there. Week 3: Honesty and Business Ethics

 This week’s readings were wonderful, and I learned a lot from them. The first thing we were prompted to read were the next couple chapter of the book Launching Leaders. So far, I have enjoyed reading this book because it has the perfect balance of personal experience and information to help you improve.  These chapters focused on setting out our course to become the person we want to be in the future. Chapter 4 started out with the author telling a story about how he randomly developed a fear of flying in his adult years. At the time he traveled here and there for work and this fear was causing him to not have confidence in himself. I read that story and it was exactly what I needed to hear this week. There are fears that I have randomly developed later in life that sometimes get in the way of my day-to-day activities. Week 1 Reflection-Getting the Gears Turning

 I'm not going to lie, I have never really thought of myself as someone who could be an Entrepreneur. I have the skills to learn things quickly and I have the memory to use that knowledge for my advantage, but I have never understood how to use those things to my benefit. Where do I start?  Lessons Learned: When I first saw all of the reading I had to do it was a little bit daunting. It has been two years since I was last in school, but I am reading to challenge my mind again. Some of the main things that really stuck out to me were first from Elder Bednars address to the students at Ricks College. He talked about the Law of Consecration and that it can apply to any part of your life, no matter what you end up doing.
