Week 14: Reflection

I didn’t know what to expect when I started this class. In my mind I thought it would be a class that would have you try and go start your own small business as the class projects. What this class actually became was a class all about finding myself and learning how to organize my life so that I get the most out of all of my experiences.     When I first saw that we also had to read 3 books this semester I didn’t know what to think. My other business classes have a lot of reading and most of the content is really dry, hard to follow, and not something I would choose to read during my free time. This class was different. The books were inspirational as they usually told someone’s person experiences and how they had learned what it took to find themselves.     There was a story in one of the books that I will never forget. It talked about a businessman that went to go visit a small village in South America. He watched as a seasoned fisherman went out for the day...

Week 13: A Journey of Gratitude

I am really glad that we got to focus on gratitude this week. I especially liked President Monsons talk about it and how we should look for it in our lives. One of my goals has always been to keep a gratitude journal, and to write in it at the end of the day so that I can take the time to ponder about what happened each day and the things that went well.    This last week I saw how this benefited my day and helped me to be more successful. On Tuesday I was having a really hard morning. I was pretty sick and not feeling well, and I honestly felt really alone and like I had no one I could talk to. I decided to say a prayer and it was one of the most sincere prayers that I have ever said. I asked Heavenly Father to give me the strength my body needed so that I could make it through the day and be proud of the day that I had. After I said that prayer my sister texted me and we were able to call each other and talk on the phone for a couple of hours. I poured my heart out to her ab...

Week 12: Becoming a Change-Maker

This week I learned a lot. It was really good to write the book report and to be able to make a summary of what the Hero's Journey is all about. The one thing that I really like about this book is that even though they were relating it to business and being an entrepreneur, it can be really relatable to you at any stage of life.      You will always need to figure out who you want to become and make goals to try and get there. I really loved how it talked about building that foundation and learning  yourself. Reaching out to others and gaining strong relationships with people that you trust. And then it talked about trials that you might go through.       My favorite part of the book was the chapter when it talked about days that are in the darkness. The days when our mindsets turn back to the perspective of a child. Dark corners are scary and a pile of clothes in the dark can look like a monster. This I found really...

Week 11: Measuring the Cost

This weeks reading really made me ponder about what life priorities should look like. A lot of the videos talked about finding the balance between work life and home life. I said it multiple times in the discussion boards this week, but to me, it really is so important. We all are going after our own version of the American Dream. I think for a while that dream was to be able to have as many freedoms as you could. You could work hard and get the nice house, the nice cars and the best clothes. While those things are great, for me that is not my dream. America has gone into this notion that you have to always put work first. I do not agree with that.  My goal is life is to be ale to have the freedom of only working as much as need to, and then spending the rest of my time enjoying life, being with family and having the ability to travel. Up until just a couple of weeks ago I worked for a major airline here in the United States as a Passenger Service Agent. I was only a part-tim...
